Unplugged

Leading From The Heart

Some of you may know that I recently took a trip to the BVI’s with a group of friends to celebrate a big birthday I have coming up next month. I spent a week in Paradise🏖️ Blue skies, sunshine, good company, and even bluer waters made for a beautiful week. But you know what made it even better? I unplugged. I have never totally unplugged from work and social media. I’ve heard of others doing this, but I never thought I could do it for myself. I own a company, for goodness sake! What business owner can completely unplug, even if you know you have great employees to keep the ship afloat?? It’s just not in my DNA! … or so I thought. But I surprised myself because I did it- I unplugged. I only checked my phone to communicate with my kids back home, and that was minimal. They’re older teenagers now, and you know- they don’t need mom as much 🙂 I was completely disconnected from social media and the happenings in the world. I sent the payroll wire, and after that, I signed off of Hushmail for an entire 7 days. You know what I learned? I was less stressed, more relaxed, and didn’t have FOMO. It was so refreshing to care less about what nonsense was going on in social media land.

My takeaway from the week out of the country was that I plan to unplug more. I can’t unplug from work as often, but I can certainly unplug from social media and meaningless phone use. I practiced being totally present while I was away. Present with my husband and my friends, present with our outdoor activities and nature. We even saw SpaceX take off one night!

You can also thank me for bringing the Sunshine back with me. Hello Spring! I see you coming 🌞
