Selden Felts

LCMHCA

Selden Felts holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (2013) and a Master of Science in Teacher Education (2014), both from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She furthered her education with a Master’s in Education, specializing in School Counseling, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2023. With two years of counseling experience working with children aged 5-15 in both elementary and middle school settings, Selden has developed a deep understanding of the challenges kids face. Before transitioning to counseling, she worked as an elementary and middle school teacher, yoga instructor, and cross-country coach – roles that helped shape her approach to supporting others. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina, Selden works with children and adults on issues like anxiety, depression, ADHD, self-esteem, relationship struggles, and more.

Selden takes a holistic approach to therapy, believing that a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are shaped by not just internal factors, but also by their environment, community, and lifestyle. She sees therapy as a partnership between client and counselor, where they work together to identify personal strengths and create a clear, achievable plan for growth. For children especially, family involvement is key – parents and caregivers play an important role in working collaboratively to identify maladaptive patterns and implement new skills and routines. Selden’s approach combines Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) with techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) to help clients reach their individual goals. She’s passionate about making therapy a supportive, non-judgmental experience where real change can happen.

When she’s not working, Selden enjoys spending time at the beach, reading a good book, traveling, or hitting the gym. She’s also a big fan of quality time with her husband, Jordan, and their dog, Maggie.
