How to never fail
by Olatunde Howard, MA, LMFTA
I hate making mistakes. Messing up. Failing. I’m sure you’re with me. We’re 9 days into the New Year. How are we doing? How are you doing?
Maybe you feel depressed because you didn’t keep your resolution so far. Maybe you think you’ve failed. Worse yet, that you are a failure. But what if you knew a way to never fail?
There is a way. And here it is:
Love never fails.
Those three words are the culmination of perhaps the greatest words ever written about love, words used in weddings, and even at funerals. Read and ponder these words:
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It’s not easily angered.
It keeps no record of wrongs.
It does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always hopes, always endures, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
You and I know this intuitively. I know that when my 8 year old daughter draws a picture and writes at the bottom “I love you daddy,” even if she misspells every word, she did not and could not fail. Her love for me as her daddy never fails. Never. Ever. You know how this feels. You know that when someone is trying with all of their heart to truly love you in the way you need and want to be loved, they can’t fail.
The same is true for you when do your best to show love.
Another wise saying about love is this one:
Love covers a multitude of sins.
So even if you have “messed up,” love can cover it up.
Because love never fails.
It doesn’t fail when you’re depressed, or anxious, or angry.
It doesn’t fail when you don’t know what to do or how to do it.
Love is therapeutic, when it is given, when it is received.
Love is how to never fail, because love never fails.

How to Let it Go
We all feel hurt by others at times. But it is usually not the offense itself that causes us the most pain, but rather the way we hold onto the offence, turning it over and over in our minds, boiling in rage or bitterness. We allow the hurt and anger we feel toward the person who has wronged us to churn in our stomachs like rotten soup. Of course, this hurts only ourselves …
