Happy 18th Birthday to One80!

Leading From The Heart

Many of you know the backstory of One-Eighty, and probably a lot of you do not. I started One Eighty Counseling in 2007, and quickly found out I was pregnant shortly after launching the business. I was wondering what to do with clients while on maternity leave, when a psychologist reached out and asked if she could join up with me. I gladly accepted that request and asked her to take my caseload while I was on maternity leave. Hence, One-Eighty Counseling, the group practice was born.

If you have ever created and run a business, you understand that it is almost like your baby. You nurture it, cry over it, feel deep gratitude for it, fret over it, pray over it, and lose many nights of sleep over it as well. So I had a new business and a new baby.

Forgive me if I’m a bit emotional this year, as my firstborn is also approaching adulthood. My real baby is preparing to launch, and my business baby is 18. The parallel of the two has hit me harder than I realized this summer.

This season, I find myself in lots of transition personally and professionally. My firstborn is applying to college, taking senior cap & gown pictures, and planning to leave the nest. My business baby has had a lot of new transitions in 2025 as well- Good things and challenging things. We launched a new line of service, the SAIOP, a handful of providers have left, and new providers are joining. We’ve had staff changes and are currently working on an unexpected Clayton office relocation. And the list goes on…

I keep reminding myself that such is life. Babies grow up and do what they’re supposed to – FLY. Businesses navigate highs and lows and do what they’re supposed to – GROW. And part of growth includes transition. Life cannot remain constant and unchanging. There will always be mountains and valleys to navigate in life. And ALL of it is good. ALL of it means you’re still in the game of life!

Happy Birthday to One80! I’m so proud of both of my babies. They’re grown up & thriving. Here’s to 18 years and many more to come 🎉🎉🎉
