Barbara Lennon is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) and National Certified Counselor (NCC). Barbara holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a Concentration in Christian Counseling from Liberty University. Barbara has a passion for being a part of the change she wants to see in her community through encouraging and uplifting people as they journey through life’s challenges and enabling them to explore and overcome problematic behaviors, emotions, and maladaptive thinking patterns so they can flourish.
Barbara has experience counseling adolescents aged 16+ through adults, and pre-marital and married couples from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. She provides a supportive non-judgmental space where clients can explore their experiences, build coping skills, and work toward healing from trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and other issues while improving their relationships and overall well-being. She takes a collaborative approach to helping individuals develop goals that reduce maladaptive thinking and behavior patterns, increase their ability to overcome life’s obstacles, and improve their well-being.
Barbara’s counseling approach is primarily Cognitive-Behavioral. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based and widely recognized psychotherapeutic approach that focuses on helping individuals address and overcome problematic behaviors, emotions, and maladaptive thinking that is adversely impacting their lives. Additional approaches utilized include Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), Reality Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness techniques, and strength-based approaches. If requested, she can integrate a Christian counseling perspective however she respects each person’s autonomy, self-determination, and freedom to choose a secular approach to counseling.
Barbara understands that each person’s cultural heritage and socio-economic background influences their worldview. She may ask that you educate her regarding how your worldview influences your life so she can collaborate with you to develop a treatment approach unique to your needs. Barbara’s goal is to build a strong therapeutic professional relationship with you that can be a source of support, direction, and hope.
In her spare time, Barbara enjoys reading, writing poetry, riding her bike, and spending time at the beach with her family.
