Sydney Burford

LCMHCA

Sydney is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate. She graduated with her Master’s of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in psychiatric disabilities from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Sydney strives to ensure a non-judgmental, supportive environment in which her clients can feel validated and respected.

Sydney pulls from a variety of therapies such as dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy while also operating through a person-centered and trauma-informed lens. Identifying client strengths and working with them to identify tools and techniques that help them reach their goals is an essential part of Sydney’s practice. She also likes to incorporate expressive arts interventions such as art or creative writing with interested clients.

Sydney has experience with late-adolescent and adult clients in individual and group therapy settings. She has worked with individuals experiencing substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, trauma/stress-related disorders, transition-age issues, psychotic disorders, and family/relationship problems. Sydney loves working with the LGBTQIA+ community and has a research and practical background in working with trauma.

Outside of work, Sydney loves to read, write, play video games, and spend time with friends. Sydney’s goals in life are to help others live their best life, adopt a welsh corgi named Oliver, and publish a novel.
