Dr. Autumn Schoonover

LCSW

Autumn Schoonover is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, having completed her Doctorate of Social Work from Barry University, with an emphasis in trauma-informed care. Prior to this, Autumn graduated from the joint Master of Social Work program through The North Carolina University at Greensboro and The University of North Carolina A&T University and completed her Bachelor of Social Work through the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Autumn has a diverse background and experience in mental health, having previously worked in a pediatric primary care setting, collegiate counseling, and community mental health. Autumn feels that these experiences have shaped her perspective as a therapist, utilizing a person-centered, trauma-informed approach and values the therapeutic relationship more so than a diagnosis or presenting problem. Autumn enjoys working with children, teens, and adults facing various mental health and life challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, work and other life stress, as well as self-esteem concerns, stage of life problems, and women’s issues. Utilizing therapeutic techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy techniques, and EMDR to work with clients toward improved emotional regulation, interpersonal relationships, and overall quality of life. Faith is also an important part of Autumn’s life and something she is more than happy to incorporate into therapy as requested.

While reaching out for support can be difficult,, Autumn recognizes this and believes therapy can be fun and enjoyable, integrating games and hands-on activities while working towards goals when appropriate. Outside of One80, Autumn enjoys spending time with her husband and toy poodle Luna, watching The Carolina Hurricanes, reading, and visiting local restaurants.
