Emily is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Virginia Tech. Emily then received her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Old Dominion University. Emily’s professional experience includes working in a clinic with medical professionals providing an integrated behavioral health care model, working in crisis intervention for survivors of domestic violence, and in community mental health providing services for children and families in their homes and Outpatient Therapy.

Emily mostly draws from Person-Centered and Cognitive Behavioral therapies often using a trauma informed lens. Emily is also trained in cognitive behavioral therapy using a trauma informed lens. Emily has a passion for working with children, adolescents, and families and greatly enjoys assisting individuals working through depression, anxiety, self-esteem concerns, life changes and transitions, family conflict, and anyone who struggles with identifying and expressing their own emotions. Emily loves to be able to create genuine connections with her clients and provides an accepting and honest environment for clients to learn and grow.

Emily holds strongly to the belief that the therapeutic alliance relies on the Person-Centered principles of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness. Her counseling style helps clients to identify strengths, gain self-awareness, increase the utilization of positive self-talk, and simply allows clients and families to explore their personal journeys and hardships in the safety of an encouraging and confidential environment. Emily loves spending time with her dog, Maple, and her cat, Moonie. In her free time she loves being outdoors, spending time with friends and family and watching TV.
