Shelly Slonecker

MSW, LCSWA

Shelly has over 15 years of clinical experience and has worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings, most recently at Duke University Hospital. Shelly has worked with a wide range of client populations and has experience with foster and adoptive children/adolescents, maternal mental health, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and other mental health struggles. Safety is of the utmost importance in the services she provides and is done so through a trauma-informed lens, with a specific focus on client autonomy.

Shelly is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA) and has earned her Master’s degree in Social Work with a clinical focus on mental health and trauma from The University of Denver. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Olivet Nazarene University in Chicago, Illinois. Shelly is originally from Indiana, however, has called North Carolina home for the past 15 years.

Shelly’s goal as a therapist is to provide a therapeutic safe space, free of judgment, allowing individuals the time and space to process. She utilizes multiple evidenced-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. With the use of these modalities and other therapeutic techniques, Shelly believes therapy can be a rewarding, life-giving journey toward wellness and self-acceptance.

When Shelly is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and living out new experiences. When not with her family, she is often found drinking boba tea snuggled under a blanket with her Boston terrier, Winston.
