Dr. Ryan M. Denney

PhD

Dr. Denney is a licensed psychologist and Health Services Provider in North Carolina. He earned a PhD in Counseling Psychology from The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and a bachelor’s and master’s degree in psychology from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Dr. Denney provides therapy to adults for a wide range of issues and concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and others. As an adoptive father, he is sensitive to the unique issues involved in the adoption experience and has a special interest in helping clients address adoption-related concerns. He offers Christian and spiritually integrated therapy upon a client’s request. He also performs psychological evaluations including personality evaluation, adult ADHD evaluations, Veteran’s Administration compensation and pension evaluations and pre-surgical psychological evaluations for bariatric surgery candidates.

In addition to providing therapy, Dr. Denney is also a speaker and has provided inspirational talks and key note addresses for churches, business, professional conferences and other groups, specifically about the intersection of mental health and faith. He enjoys writing on various topics. He is also available to consult with churches, organizations and business and has consulted with and provided interactive educational workshops for medical organizations, business managers and the Mississippi Department of Education to enhance employee performance, leadership and communication.

Coming to therapy takes courage and Dr. Denney works to honor his clients’ bravery while inviting them to grow. His approach to therapy is highly flexible, collaborative and tailored to the unique needs of each client. He incorporates multiple therapy modalities based on the client’s need including interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, cognitive processing, ego-state and emotion-focused processes. He has specialized training in Brainspotting and the Comprehensive Resource Model, both of which are highly effective techniques for resolution of emotional difficulties and complex trauma.

Dr. Denney is originally from North Texas, but has lived in several parts of the country throughout his life including Oklahoma, California, Washington State, Tennessee and Mississippi. His hobbies include traveling, reading spy novels, writing and spending time with his beautiful wife, awesome son, family and friends. He has a heart to help his clients discover hope, defeat shame, dare courageously, live authentically, and access their innate healing potential no matter what life challenges they have faced.
