Lisa Nicholls (Neuhaus)

MS, LMFTA, CBIS

Lisa Nicholls is a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFTA) and Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) who earned her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. She completed her undergraduate education at Columbia College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in Sociology.

Lisa brings a broad and diverse professional background to her work as a therapist. She has over 15 years of experience working with children, more than 10 years supporting neurodivergent individuals and their families, and over five years working with individuals who have experienced traumatic brain injury. Lisa has also coached high school basketball, an experience that deepened her ability to connect with adolescents, support emotional regulation, and help teens build confidence both on and off the court.

Lisa works with individuals across the lifespan, as well as couples and families, and utilizes an integrative, evidence-based approach that includes Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and the Gottman Method, among other therapeutic modalities. She supports concerns related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD, and works with individuals navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, and emotional stressors. Lisa also works with neurodivergent individuals and families, military families, first responders, and athletes, and is passionate about helping couples and families build healthy, connected, and supportive home environments. Her approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and focused on practical tools that support meaningful and lasting change.

Her goal as a therapist is to provide a safe, welcoming space where clients feel supported in processing life experiences, gaining insight, and moving toward personal growth. Lisa believes therapy is for everyone and views the therapeutic journey as a rewarding and empowering experience.

Originally from the Illinois/Wisconsin area, Lisa has enjoyed calling North Carolina home for the past six years. When not working, Lisa enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking with her Labrador, Nani, who is also a Therapy Dog, gardening, baking and going to the beach. Lisa is also an avid Michigan State Spartans and Chicago Bears fan.
